The Colorful History of the Vashon-Maury Island Garden Club
The Vashon-Maury Island Garden Club traces its history to the first garden clubs on the island that began in the 1920s. Following World War II, two island garden clubs joined in 1957 to form the current Vashon-Maury Island Garden Club. Over the past 70 years the club has changed as the island has changed and today represents one of many active and vital organizations that make the island what it is. Join historian Bruce Haulman as he tells the story of the Garden Club with the assistance of Denise St. Dennis and Hunter Davis.
Bruce Haulman is one of many Vashon Island historians working to preserve and tell Vashon stories. He has published two histories of the island, Vashon-Maury Island in the Images of America Series (2011) and A Brief History of Vashon Island (2016). He also writes the "Time&Again" series, and the weekly "It's Your History" column with Mike Sudduth in the Beachcomber.
